RODI Kenya in collaboration with Zambani Green Farmers and agricultural officials from Machakos County recently conducted a hands-on training session focused on organic fertilizer and organic pesticide production. The training aimed at empowering farmers with sustainable agricultural practices that promote safe food production while reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.

During the training, farmers were introduced to practical methods of producing organic farm inputs using locally available materials. Key techniques demonstrated included the preparation of Bokashi compost, Ashbrew, and Foliar fertilizers, which are effective, affordable, and environmentally friendly alternatives to synthetic agricultural inputs.

The session was facilitated by trainers from RODI Kenya, including Project Officer Isaac Ndungu and Remi Chebus, who guided both farmers and county officials through the preparation processes and the correct application of the organic fertilizers and pesticides.

Participants also learned about the long-term benefits of organic farming, including:

Farmers expressed strong enthusiasm and appreciation for the training, noting that the new knowledge provides practical solutions to reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers, which have increasingly raised concerns regarding environmental and human health impacts.

By equipping farmers with sustainable agricultural knowledge, RODI Kenya continues to strengthen community resilience and promote agroecological practices that support both people and the environment.
