Solio, 26 August 2026 More than 100 community members were screened for diabetes, blood pressure and eye health during a field day held at Solio Baraka Primary School, bringing together agricultural innovation, community health, legal awareness and livelihood opportunities.
The field day provided a platform for farmers and community members to access practical knowledge and services aimed at strengthening food security, resilient livelihoods, healthy communities and awareness of their rights.
A major part of the field day focused on practical agricultural technologies and enterprises that farmers can adopt to improve productivity and diversify their livelihoods.

The dryland farming demonstrations were particularly relevant in highlighting approaches that can help farmers manage limited water resources and adapt to changing climatic conditions.
Participants were also able to interact with different technologies, ask questions and exchange experiences on how the practices can be adapted to their own farms.
Value addition and agro-processing were another important focus of the field day.
Farmers and community members were shown how locally produced agricultural products can be transformed into products with greater market value. Demonstrations included processing milk into yoghurt and fruits into juice.
The event also showcased rabbit and fish production and meat value addition, demonstrating opportunities for enterprise diversification, improved household nutrition and additional income.
These demonstrations highlighted the importance of looking beyond primary production and exploring ways to add value to what farmers already produce.
