Promoting sustainable soil management through community-based agroecological learning
RODI Kenya continues to strengthen community knowledge and skills in sustainable agriculture through practical agroecology training.
At Gita Sub-County, Kisumu East Constituency, Kisumu County, members of Wajepi Self Help Group participated in training on the preparation and application of Bokashi organic fertilizer.
The training focused on equipping participants with practical skills to produce organic fertilizer using locally available materials. Bokashi provides an opportunity for farmers to improve soil fertility, enhance soil health, and support sustainable crop production while making use of locally accessible resources.
By promoting the adoption of organic soil management practices, RODI Kenya seeks to strengthen farmers' capacity to improve agricultural productivity, reduce dependence on external inputs, and build more resilient farming systems.
The training forms part of RODI Kenya's broader commitment to advancing agroecology and supporting communities to adopt farming practices that promote healthy soils, sustainable food systems, and improved livelihoods.
Through community groups such as Wajepi Self Help Group, practical knowledge is shared at the grassroots level, creating opportunities for farmers to apply and spread sustainable agricultural practices within their communities.
