Members of the Kavotini Community Farmers Group recently participated in an exchange and learning visit to the G-Biack Centre, where they gained practical, hands-on experience in agroecological farming practices.
The visit provided an opportunity for farmers to observe and learn sustainable farming techniques that promote environmental conservation, food security, and resilient livelihoods. Through practical demonstrations and peer-to-peer learning, participants explored innovative approaches that can be replicated within their own communities.

During the visit, farmers gained valuable knowledge on managing open-pollinated and indigenous seeds, an important step toward strengthening local seed systems and establishing community seed banks. These efforts contribute to improved seed sovereignty, increased biodiversity, and enhanced food security.
Participants also learned a range of chemical-free farming practices, including double-digging, organic compost production, water-conserving bed management, Black Soldier Fly farming for sustainable livestock feed, cultivation of herbs and spices, and value addition techniques to increase the market value of agricultural produce.
Exchange visits such as this play a vital role in accelerating the adoption of agroecological practices by facilitating direct knowledge sharing among farmers. They strengthen regional farmer networks, promote innovation, and empower communities with practical skills that support sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.
