A Successful Community Return for Martin Kyalo Rugiri

On 25th February 2026, Martin Kyalo Rugiri successfully completed his five-year sentence at Maranjau Prison. In partnership with the prison management and discharge board, a reintegration process was organized to facilitate his smooth return to the community in Kangema, Murang’a County.

Martin had been serving a sentence related to a charge of threatening to kill. During his time in custody, he took meaningful steps toward personal transformation and rehabilitation.

Prior to his incarceration, Martin was an active member of RODI Kenya. Through the organization’s empowerment programs, he received training in agro-ecological farming practices and soap making. The farming training was facilitated by Monica Njoroge, a Project Officer at RODI Kenya, who equipped participants with sustainable agricultural skills aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting food security.

The reintegration event was well received by members of the community, demonstrating the power of restorative approaches and community support in successful rehabilitation.

RODI Kenya will continue to conduct follow-up support to ensure Martin’s smooth transition and sustainable reintegration into society.

This milestone reflects the importance of community-based support systems, skills development, and second chances in building safer and more resilient communities.
