To commemorate World Food Day 2021, RODI hosted an Organic Farmers Market at RODI's Training and Conference Centre in Ruiru. The main purpose of the event was to enhance linkage and market access between producers and consumers of organic food.

A majority of small holder farmers often lack the skills and knowledge to trade effectively, yet most are fully dependent on their farms for income (World Food Day, 2015). Additionally, most of these farmers are in rural areas and sell their produce as it is at harvest. As a result, they may experience challenges of asymmetric information in prices thus they end up selling their produce at whatever price that the brokers offer. Other challenges include inadequate selling opportunities as well as limited market access for their products. In instances where markets exist, they still face the challenging of connecting and tapping into these markets on time which may result in food wastes (World Bank, 2019). Out of our experience, we have noted that most smallholder farmers’ key concern is how to market their organic produce, especially after they have managed to get a bumper harvest of various produce.
