Climate Justice & Agroecology

As part of the Agroecology for Climate Resilience (A4CR) project, RODI Kenya successfully conducted a two-day agroecology training for government extension officers in Kirinyaga County. The training forms part of a wider initiative being implemented across West Pokot, Nandi, and Kirinyaga counties to strengthen climate resilience through sustainable agricultural practices.

The A4CR project is implemented by a consortium of four organizations, each contributing specialized expertise to support farming communities. The project is expected to reach 350 direct beneficiaries in each county, empowering farmers with practical knowledge and climate-smart solutions that improve productivity while protecting the environment.

RODI Kenya's role in the project focuses on promoting sustainable farming practices through:

  • Bio-fertilizer production and use
  • Fodder production using bio-fertilizers
  • Seed saving for enhanced food security and biodiversity

The Kirinyaga training, held at the Kiaga Government Training Facilities, brought together over 20 government extension officers from the Agriculture, Livestock, and Agribusiness departments. Participants received both theoretical and practical training on preparing and applying agroecological inputs, including:

  • Bokashi organic fertilizer
  • Super Magro bio-fertilizer
  • Lime Sulfur Brew

The workshop also featured an Agroecology Concert, providing an engaging platform to promote awareness and encourage the adoption of sustainable farming practices within communities.

By equipping extension officers with practical agroecological skills, RODI Kenya is strengthening local capacity to support farmers in adopting resilient, environmentally friendly farming practices that contribute to improved livelihoods and long-term food security.

Together, we are building resilient communities through agroecology.
