Blog / Nurturing nature through organic field days
Field days organized by RODI Kenya are designed to bring valuable knowledge directly to farmers in their local area. This approach ensures that participants can learn and apply new techniques without having to travel far from their homes, thereby maximizing convenience and accessibility. These field days also benefit the community by reducing the costs of purchasing farm materials such as fertilizers and pesticides and instead teaches them how to make them. In addition to sustainable farming practices, the field day includes sessions on value addition. Community members will learn practical skills in producing items such as soap, crisps, and cassava flour. These activities not only add value to agricultural products but also create new avenues for income generation within the community.
With these trainings, the community is able to go organic , reducing lifestyle diseases and ensuring they eat healthy and toxic free food. These trainings also help farmers reduce the toxins in their soils that have been damaged through use of toxic products. The core mission of these training sessions is to provide free education to farmers, equipping them with knowledge that leverages local resources to boost income and enhance health outcomes. By emphasizing organic farming techniques and the use of organic fertilizers, RODI Kenya aims to help farmers produce healthier crops while reducing reliance on harmful chemicals. The field day in Magogoni saw over a hundred farmers coming through, to learn and relearn new ways of farming bringing an impact to individuals and the community at large.
