Through Prisoner Rehabilitation Programme RODI demonstrates a restorative way of rehabilitating prisoners both within and outside prison in order to reduce re-offending and poverty. Restorative Prisoner Rehabilitation Approach (RPRA) is a RODI homegrown approach that addresses the problems faced when a person commits a crime that lands him/her into prison. Because of the appalling conditions of our prisons and interacting with worse criminals people loose self esteem, hope in life and esteem/respect by the community. Loss of self-esteem and hope in life for whatever reason, be it imprisonment infection by HIV/AIDS, is a dangerous thing to happen to anyone. It can lead to self-harm or harming others.
Prisoners are selected and trained in skills that enable them to regain self-esteem and hope in life besides preparing them to be self-reliant. The skills also enable them to appease the people they may have offended including their victims and the community. Prisoners and ex-prisoners are advised to not only practice but to also pass on to the wider community the training provided by RODI. As much as possible ex-prisoners are encouraged to form community groups. Members of these groups benefit from the skills from the ex-prisoner; they in tern help the ex-prisoner to reintegrate.
